T Levels Week: Future Friday
Today is Future Friday of T Levels Week 2026, and we’re using today to focus on what’s coming up for T Levels and wider post-16 technical and vocational qualification reforms. If you haven’t already seen the latest update to the Post-16 Implementation Plan, this contains all the latest information on subject lists, timelines and policy details for new V Level, Occupational Certificates and Foundation Certificates, as well as more details on the continued expansion of T Levels.
We also have some exciting news about new T Levels and how we are bringing existing T Levels in Digital up to date:
New T Levels
Today, the Minister for Skills visited Loughborough College to mark the publication of the final subject content for new T Levels in Sport, Physical Activity & Health, and Social Care. These have been developed with providers, employers, HEIs and professional bodies, including Premier League, CIMSPA, Loughborough College for the T Level in Sport, Physical Activity & Health; and Skills for Care, Care England and Sunderland College for the T Level in Social Care. These T Levels will help to meet the demands of these growing sectors by giving young people the practical skills and knowledge employers need:
- The T Level in Sport, Physical Activity & Health will combine knowledge in sport science, nutrition, psychology and health with practical skills including coaching, personal training and performance analysis. Students will also learn to use data and technology, support people with diverse needs, promote physical activity in communities and run programmes and businesses.
- The T Level in Social Care will combine knowledge of person-centred care, health and wellbeing, safeguarding and communication with practical skills in Adult Social Care. Students will also learn to use digital technology, recognise and respond to changes in people’s needs and provide safe, effective care and support.
Both these new T Levels will be available for first teach from September 2028.
Strengthening and streamlining T Levels in the Digital Route
We are strengthening the T Level Digital offer by introducing additional artificial intelligence (AI) content and bringing together the current Digital Software Development and Digital Data Analytics T Levels into a single qualification.
- The updated T Level will retain the content and occupational specialisms in the existing T Levels, with updated AI learning ensuring that students have the skills they need for today’s modern digital occupations including web design and software development.
- The consolidated T Level is currently in development and is expected to be available for first teaching from September 2027.
- Students already enrolled on existing T Levels will not be affected by these changes.
As T Levels continue to expand and evolve, we are committed to making them more manageable for providers to deliver and more accessible for students. We have taken a number of actions to achieve this, summarised in the document at the bottom of this page. We will continue to engage with you around how we can improve and grow the T Level offer, while maintaining the excellent progression outcomes we are seeing for students.
