This week's newsletter includes updates on:

 

T Level Thursday: toolkit is now live!

The 16th National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) takes place from 6 to 12 February 2023.​ And Thursday 9 February marks T Level Thursday, allocating a specific day to solely focus on and celebrate T Levels for the first time.

We are pleased to confirm that the T Level Thursday Toolkit is now LIVE, please download from here.

T Level Thursday is a great opportunity to highlight T Levels as a high quality and world-class qualification, we can use it to help:

  • raise awareness of them across the country,
  • demonstrate that they are an excellent route to an apprenticeship,
  • encourage more employers to offer industry placements,
  • and to drive registrations for September 2023 and beyond.

Join us to get behind the day, celebrating the successes so far and helping us to raise the profile of T Levels using the hashtag #TLevelThursday when you post to social media.

Key call to actions for T Level Thursday:

  • Take part and celebrate the achievements of T Level students by using and adapting content from the T Level Thursday Toolkit
  • Sign up to any open T Level events to learn more about how doing a T Level or offering industry placements can help build your career/ support your business, search T Levels on the NAW events listing
  • Share your own T Level story on social media channels using the hashtag #TLevelThursday
  • Join the conversation on social media – search for #TLevelThursday​
  • Upload your own events to the events map
  • Re-tweet/share T Level content​ during the week and on the day, itself remembering to use the hashtag #TLevelThursday

 

Make sure employers can find you

Remember to check that your organisation’s details are up to date in the National Careers Service Course Directory so that potential employers and students can find you using our T Level provider search tools.

Specialist Equipment Allocation: Monitoring Form B due 27 January 2023

This is a reminder to all providers who received SEA funding as part of Wave 3, the deadline for returning the Monitoring Form B is Friday 27 January.

It is important that this form is returned to us, so that we can confirm that your use of the allocation is compliant with the regulations set out in the T Level Capital Fund Guidance and your grant offer letter. If the equipment you have purchased is significantly different to the equipment you listed in the monitoring form A, you will need to provide the details of all the equipment purchased. Completing the form is a condition of funding set out in your grant offer letter.

Deadline for T Level Capital fund applications approaching

The deadline for T Level providers delivering in September 2024 to submit an application for the Buildings and Facilities Improvement Grant is at noon on the 3rd February 2023. T Level Reference Group

On Monday 23rd January we held the first T Level Reference Group. The aim of the meeting is to provide a forum for senior leaders within providers to discuss key issues around the programme with DfE Officials. The main topics discussed at the meeting were:

  • Update on Progression
  • Awarding Organisation Support and Assessment Preparation
  • New Industry Placement Delivery Approaches
  • Industry Placement Support
  • Recruitment Comms and Marketing Update

Some key discussion points were around how providers can create improve the links with the HE sector; Raising awareness with employers to increase the number of placements, ensuring the safeguarding of students and securing effective case studies to raise awareness among parents.

We will continue to update on the actions and outcomes of the group in this newsletter.

 

 

The DfE is seeking views on future qualifications to support progression to T Levels 

As part of the review of post-16 qualifications at level 2 and below, the Department intends to consider for funding level 2 qualifications designed to support progression to T levels; approved qualifications would be available for first teaching from 2026. These qualifications could be taken by young people as part of a broader T Level Transition Programme (TLTP), or by adults outside of a TLTP. The Department is seeking views on how the national technical outcomes developed for the TLTP should be used in developing these qualifications

Full details about the proposals and how to provide feedback via the online questionnaire can be found here. The deadline for submitting responses is Thursday 6 April 2023.

 

 

Technical Focus Group (TFG) Event 2- Preparing to Teach TLTP

These events are for staff involved in delivery of the technical content of TLTP (e.g., teachers, curriculum leads/ managers) of any provider planning to deliver a TLTP route for the first time. It builds on the ‘Introduction to teaching the TLTP’ events held online during December 2022.  The content will include:

  • A detailed exploration of the National Technical Outcomes (NTOs) with a focus on the inclusion of the Route Based Project (RBP)
  • An exploration of approaches to monitor student progress and support their progression to T Levels
  • An opportunity to network, collaborate and share ideas with others planning for delivery.

Events will cover all routes and be repeated across different dates and venues for providers convenience. Providers can attend any one of the following remaining sessions:

Central 1Loughborough College, Tuesday 31 January 2023, 09.30 – 16.00.         

South 1Weston College, Tuesday 7 February 2023, 09.30 – 16.00.    

South 2Petroc, Wednesday 8 February 2023, 09.30 – 16.00.    

South 3Chichester College, Thursday 9 February 2023, 09.30 – 16.00.

Central 2Suffolk New College, Monday 27 February 2023, 09.30 – 16.00.

Central 3West Thames College, Tuesday 28 February 2023, 09.30 – 16.00.    

 

 

T Level Transition Programme: New Marketing content development - Sales, marketing and procurement national technical outcomes

Register your interest by midnight Monday 6 February via the online registration form.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for those with marketing knowledge and T Level and T Level Transition Programme delivery experience such as Heads of Department, T Level and T Level Transition Programme Leads, Teachers, Curriculum and Quality Leads to help finalise the T Level Transition Programme’s draft national technical outcomes in Sales Marketing and Procurement, to support progression to the Marketing T Level.  

In February we will be hosting online focus group sessions of 2 hours in duration, to critique the draft national technical outcomes.

T Level and T Level Transition Programme providers are invited to participate in one session, the choice of dates is:

  • Monday 27th February 2023 @ 15.00 -17.00 or
  • Tuesday 28th February 2023 @ 15.00 – 17.00

The expert input of our education providers is invaluable in this process. Your contribution at this final stage in development is important to ensure we have identified the right, relevant practical outcomes and introductory knowledge and skills that all students will be expected to be able to do by the end of the programme. 

Please get involved and have your say in the development of national technical outcomes in this subject area.

Do encourage colleagues in your organisation to register quickly for one of the limited number of session places.

*Save the date* HTQ provider event

Thursday 9 March: DfE plans to run an event for those delivering, preparing to deliver, or thinking about delivering Higher Technical Qualifications, to share information and good practice particularly around working with employers, developing curricula, and attracting learners. It will be hosted in person and available online. More details coming soon.

 

 

T Level Intermediary Event

The Department for Education is hosting a face-to-face event at the Crowne Plaza Birmingham City Centre. The event will focus on T Levels to link in with the theme of T Level Thursday, you will be able to hear from other Intermediaries, employers and students

The event will focus on T Levels to link in with the theme of T Level Thursday, you will be able to hear from other Intermediaries, employers and students with how T Levels are working for them and the business benefits.

Awarding Organisation Updates

IfATE

Peer review

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) has a leading role in implementing employer-led technical education reforms. IfATE are looking for peer reviewers to undertake independent reviews of new and updated qualifications and apprenticeships. Reviewers must not be members of trailblazer groups and must not review any materials they have been involved in developing.

IfATE are particularly looking for FE lecturers, academics and employers to provide insights about Level 2 & 3 technical qualifications (TQs) in Engineering & Manufacturing, Construction & the Built Environment, Digital, Health & Science and Education & Childcare, though are open to interest from all departments.

Reviewers who have a contract with IfATE are eligible to receive a fee. The workload is highly flexible, and a typical review may take 2-4 hours. For information, please contact  IFA.PeerReview@education.gov.uk

Summer Occupational Specialisms

Providers can now access the live OS assessment materials where they have active bookings. These are available on the T Levels Quality Portal, guidance on how to access these (and much more) can be found in the TQ Occupational Specialism assessment process guide. It is critically important that any provider delivering summer 2023 Occupational Specialism assessments is familiar with all aspects of this document and that it is used in conjunction with the live assessment materials. Approval support webinars

The Quality team are hosting approval support webinars which providers should already have received invitations for, the first of which was held on 12 January with the second scheduled for 16 February. Core assessment preparation webinars

As the booking window is now open for the summer series of core assessments, NCFE’s Technical Advisors have started hosting online and in-person events to support you while preparing for these assessments. These events cover topics such as: delivery styles, assessment principles, question structure, exam delivery plus much more.
