Design of the T Level Foundation Year
The high-level design of the T Level Foundation Year is based on sector experience in supporting students to progress to Level 3. It contains similar components to existing study programmes, but providers are expected to go further by tailoring these components creatively to provide effective support specifically to help students progress onto their chosen T Level route.
The department’s delivery partner, the Association of Colleges (AoC) are working with providers during phased implementation to encourage innovation and identify good practice. Although there is some flexibility, all providers are required to deliver the T Level Foundation Year in line with the high-level design and expectations set out in the programme's Framework for Delivery.
We have drawn on evidence from the first two years of the T Level Foundation Year delivery and wider evidence on good practice and have worked with providers, employers and education specialists to develop the national programme and technical content for the first 3 waves of T Level routes.
In December 2021 we published the revised Framework for Delivery. Alongside the Framework, we published national technical outcomes for the first three waves of T Levels, a student guide and resources to help providers develop their programmes. Our expectation is that all T Level Foundation Years delivered from September 2022 will use this new framework for the programme.
