External assessment of the technical qualification (TQ)

The core exams are one part of the TQ and will account for no more than a third of the total marks for the TQ. 

The core component will also include an employer-set project, designed to assess employability skills, such as problem solving, teamwork and communication in a real world occupational context. 

The Occupational Specialism will account for at least half of the TQ guided learning hours and is designed to assess knowledge and skills required to enter employment in specific occupations.

Assessment of the Occupational Specialisms will be through projects and assignments and will be applied and practical. 

All TQ assessments will be externally set and marked. Sometimes providers will internally mark students’ occupational specialisms and employer-set projects, but this marking will always be externally moderated.
