Industry placement preparation pack for T Level students
Contents
This resource has been developed to help students feel more prepared, confident and “ready enough” as they approach their industry placement. It focuses on practical preparation and realistic workplace expectations rather than formal employability theory or generic careers advice.
The guide includes:
- practical tips for before placement, Day 1 and Week 1
- examples of what students can say and ask in the workplace
- guidance on professional behaviours and communication
- practical preparation checklists
- a suggested email students can adapt before placement begins
- space for students to record placement details and planning information
The guidance is intended to support the full range of industry placement approaches now used within T Levels. Regardless of the placement model, the same principles around communication, professionalism, engagement and readiness still apply.
Rather than simply being shared with students as a standalone pdf, feedback from providers highlighted that the resource is likely to be most effective when used actively with students through:
- tutorials
- work readiness sessions
- tutor discussions
- placement preparation workshops
Providers may therefore choose to use the guide:
- as part of wider placement preparation activity
- within tutorials and readiness discussions
- alongside employer talks or placement briefings
- during one-to-one placement check-ins
- to support students who may have limited workplace experience or confidence
The tone of the resource is intentionally supportive, practical and student friendly. It is designed to help students understand that they do not need to know everything before placement begins, but that communication, reliability, willingness to learn and positive engagement matter greatly to employers.
