Student induction checklist

Helping students feel safe, confident and ready to thrive on their first day of an industry placement

Introduction
This resource helps providers prepare employers to deliver an effective first-day induction for T Level students on industry placement.
A good induction helps students feel safe, confident and ready to learn. It also reassures employers that students are prepared, supported and understand expectations.

Guidance
Use this checklist to support employers in planning and recording what will be covered during a student’s induction. It can be used at pre-placement meetings or site visits to discuss arrangements, confirm responsibilities and identify where you can provide additional support.
Before sharing the checklist with an employer:
• Pre-populate as much information as possible, such as named contacts or safeguarding details.
• Add notes to show how your organisation can help (for example, in the Provider Support fields).
• Ask the employer to review, complete and return the checklist before the placement starts.
• Upload the completed version to the student’s placement record so you can evidence induction and track early progress.
Encourage employers to use the checklist as a prompt, not a form. It helps them think through what to cover on day one – giving students a clear understanding of the organisation, its people, and what is expected of them.
