28 September 2023 - T Level Newsletter

This week's newsletter includes updates on:

T Level Celebration Week and Provider Toolkit

Next week is T Level Celebration Week, 2-6 October!  This is a fantastic opportunity to help raise awareness of T Levels and the T Level Foundation Year, encourage employers to offer industry placements and drive registrations for September 2024 and beyond. This year we have assigned broad themes for each day: Monday will launch the week with a video message from the Skills Minister, Tuesday will focus on the T Level Foundation Year, Wednesday will be focused on progression from T Levels, Thursday will be all about Industry Placements, and we will close the week with a look at our T Level Ambassador network.

There are a number of ways for you to participate, such as:

  • sharing the experiences and successes of your T Level students and alumni across your social media channels
  • hosting a T Level event – this could be an Open Day, breakfast or other celebratory event
  • showcasing your star T Level teachers or the T Level subjects you offer

To help support your communications activity we have developed a Toolkit, containing a quote from Minister Halfon, newsletter copy, case studies, sample social media posts and other hints and tips. Look out for social posts from DfE during the week and please get involved and let us know what you’re up to!

Recap and Refresher Webinar Thursday 5 October (10:00-12:45)

Also taking place on the Thursday of Celebration Week will be our first Recap and Refresher webinar.  This will provide an overview of the different aspects of T Level delivery - including industry placements, results and certification, progression from T Levels, curriculum support tips and Ofsted’s inspection of T Levels. It will also include an update on more recent policy changes and a refresher on the basics – signposting to more detailed guidance and support on each issue. You should have received an email with the dial in details, but if you’d like it re-sent please email TLevel.Delivery@education.gov.uk

Recording your T Level data accurately

We calculate T Levels under- and over-delivery against your estimated numbers by reviewing, in year, your student numbers submitted in your autumn census or R04. It is important that, where you have enrolled new T Level students this year (or are amending records for continuing students), your autumn census or R04 data is recorded correctly as we will not accept business cases to change these numbers.

We have updated the Record your T Level data correctly guidance. This includes additional examples of how T Level programme elements and scenarios should be recorded in your data returns.

We strongly encourage you to submit your autumn school census or R04 before the return deadlines (1 November 2023 for the autumn census and 6 December 2023 for the R04) so you can review your data submitted and make amendments where needed. You can review your 16 to 19 funding reports in the funding information system (FIS), submit learner data and COLLECT as these will identify your T Level students and the funding bands assigned to them.

If some T Level students are not displaying as you expected, you can use the checklist provided at the bottom of the Record your T Level data correctly guidance to ensure you have recorded all programme elements correctly.

T Level Enrolment Survey

The 2023 T Level Enrolment Survey is currently open and will close on 29 September. The survey asks about the total number of new students who have enrolled on a T Level course or T Level Foundation Year programme starting in September 2023, and the total number of industry placements secured for this cohort. As the information is used to update ministers, publish information on T Level recruitment in our T Level Action Plan, support with sourcing industry placements and to determine whether the T Level Careers Guidance funding is helping to support the recruitment drive, we would appreciate if providers planning to deliver in 2023 could complete the survey by 29 September.

You can complete the survey here. This was shared with the T Level leads for all providers offering T Levels this year on 25 September.

October 2023 T Level data collection – for 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024 providers

We issued the October 2023 data collection on 18 September 2023, and this will be open until Friday 13 October.

It is important to complete this form before the deadline as the October 2023 data collection is the last opportunity to tell us about your 2024 to 2025 academic year T Level delivery intentions, which will be used to plan for revenue and specialist equipment funding.

If you have any queries about completing the T Level digital form, please email TLDC.ENQUIRIES@education.gov.uk.
