T Level Professional Development Programme – Evaluation research report

The T Level Professional Development Programme (TLPD) supports providers to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach T Levels.

Today the DfE published an evaluation report conducted by SQW on the DfE’s behalf, focussing on the second phase of TLPD to trace a cohort from a year pre-delivery through a full first year, to understand the role of TLPD throughout the journey.

The report confirms that TLPD is an important part of the support offer around T Levels, satisfaction and engagement is high and it is valued in the FE sector, it also highlights where improvements can be implemented.

New resources for promoting the T Level Transition Programme – A4 Leaflet and A5 Flyer

To promote and raise awareness of the T Level Transition Programme, these new leaflets can be used to signpost students interested in T Levels and in a programme that will get them T Level ready.  The A4 leaflet and the A5 flyer leaflet provide at a glance what students can expect from the programme and where to find out more information.

Both leaflets can be found on the T Levels resources for teachers and careers advisers page on GOV.UK, along with other resources for teachers and careers advisers designed to help you understand the new courses and be able to engage with parents and pupils about T Levels and the T Level Transition Programme.

If you share the leaflet and flyer leaflet content on social media or your internal channels, please remember to use #TLevels in your post.

T levels recruitment survey

Ministers are keen to gain some insight on the levels of applications being received for T Levels programmes. The 2023 Recruitment Progress survey will open on the 6 March and will be sent to all T Level providers planning to offer T Levels in the 2023 to 2024 academic year. This survey will ask just one question about the total number of T Level applications received to date from students wishing to enrol in September 2023.

The Head of Organisation and T Level main contact will receive an email with a link to the survey on 6 March. This survey will close on 10 March.

Destinations research (Gatsby Foundation with RCU Ltd)

Gatsby is working with RCU Ltd to collect and share insights about destinations of T Level students using providers’ existing data. The project aims to support your work building T Levels by: giving you a national picture of the range of progression pathways from each T Level; developing case studies that your institution may wish to use in communications; and also using the outcomes to give parents and employers more information about students’ progression into employment, apprenticeships and further study.

First cohort providers will receive a letter about the project from Gatsby and RCU Ltd shortly and we hope you are able to participate. The data collection method has been trialled with providers to ensure it is simple to use.

If you have any queries, please contact RCU by email (destinations@rcu.co.uk) or by telephone (01772 734 855).

Awarding Organisations updates

IfATE:

An update on the T Level in Education and Childcare.

During 2022, a review of the ‘learning mentor’ standard, on which the TQ Occupational Specialist Component is based, was conducted by IfATE. The revision of the Standard on which the ‘supporting and mentoring students in educational settings’ Occupational Specialism (OS) is based has taken the OS out of scope of the T Level technical qualification. This is owing to the transition from a level 3 to a level 4 Standard. Given the new Standard will come into being on 1 March 2023 the ‘supporting and mentoring students in education settings’ OS shall be removed from the T Level technical qualification and shall not form part of the TQ after the 2022 Academic Year.

City & Guilds

Preparing for core assessments: face-to-face events

City & Guilds, in collaboration with ILM and EAL, will be hosting two in-person events for all centres delivering the core assessment. The events, to be held in London and Wakefield, are free-of-charge and available to both in-delivery and pre-delivery providers. The sessions are aimed at delivery staff who are or will be delivering the T Level core assessment for Onsite Construction, Building Services Engineering, Engineering and Manufacturing, Management and Administration and Agriculture, Environment and Animal Care. Find out more about these events and register via our T Levels events page: https://www.cityandguilds.com/tlevels/events

Approval support webinars

Our Quality team hosted two approval support webinars earlier this year. These webinars were to help providers prepare for their T Level application, and gain insight into the process. Please note, each webinar covered distinct aspects of the approval process, so if you’re intending to apply to deliver T Levels from September 2023, we recommend watching both. You can find links to the recordings, slides, and FAQs from each session on T Levels events page: https://www.cityandguilds.com/tlevels/events

TQ Employer-Set Project assessment process guide

We’ve recently updated our TQ ESP assessment process guide, and this is now available on the T Levels Resource Hub. This guide aims to support providers in preparing for and delivering T Level ESP. We encourage delivery staff to become familiar with the information in this guidance document in preparation for the release of the assessment materials. Access this guide now here.
