Step into the fast-paced world of food technology with Phil Mitchell, Technical & Responsible Sourcing Manager at Innocent Drinks, in this dynamic workshop designed for the Science and Agriculture, Land Management and Production T Levels.

With over 20 years' experience in the food industry, Phil brings deep expertise to the table, from his early days as a technologist at Marks & Spencer, to leading major supply chain decisions at Innocent Drinks. He’s an allergen expert, a Chartered Scientist with the Institute of Food Science & Technology and holds an MSc in Food Science. Oh, and when he’s not sourcing fruit or ensuring food safety across continents, he’s either writing novels under a pen name or playing guitar in a rock band.

In this session, Phil walks you through a (slightly dramatised) day when a major orange juice supplier’s factory burns down leaving him with 12 hours to source, test, audit, and approve a brand-new supply. Through this crisis led narrative, you’ll explore the real-world application of key food tech skills: from supplier auditing and recipe testing to risk assessment and quality control.

You’ll come away with:

A behind-the-scenes look at what it really means to be a food technologist today

Practical insights to bring industry authenticity into your T Level lessons

A renewed sense of how to connect technical knowledge with real-world problem solving

There will also be the opportunity for a Q&A with Phil during the session.
