T Levels: Industry Workshop - Animal Care and Management - The use and welfare of animals in scientific research with the RSPCA
Back by popular demand, we invite you to join Chloe Stevens, a Senior Scientific Officer, for another insightful workshop through the lens of her role in the Animals in Science Department at the RSPCA, focusing specifically on animal research and the importance and considerations of the welfare of animals during this process.
Chloe works to promote improvements in welfare for animals used in research and testing, with a particular focus on fish and other aquatic animals. She has studied behaviour and welfare in a range of fish species, including zebrafish, guppies and mollies, and has a PhD from the University of Exeter in stress biology, welfare and mortality in ornamental fish.
At this workshop Chloe will cover:
- Current role and career so far
- The work of the RSPCA/Animals in Science department
- Animal research and the stakeholders involved, including considerations when carrying out research, including the 3Rs (replacement, reduction and refinement)
- Legislation and regulation in animal science investigations
- Ethics of animal use in research
- Laboratory animal housing, husbandry and care
There will also be plenty of opportunity for discussion and a chance to pose your questions to Chloe during the session.
